Route 01
Skilled Worker Visa
For teachers who have secured a job offer and a Certificate of Sponsorship from a UK school or trust. This is the main route for long‑term teaching roles and is used by many international educators — including those without UK teaching qualifications, provided they have relevant teaching experience or recognised teaching credentials from their home country.
Route 02
Youth Mobility Route
Ideal for candidates from participating countries who want to live, travel and gain short-term work experience in the UK. This is a temporary route (up to 2–3 years) and doesn't lead to settlement on its own — but some teachers use it to gain UK classroom experience before switching into a sponsored Skilled Worker role, provided they have relevant teaching qualifications or experience.
Route 03
Graduate Route
For those who have recently completed an eligible UK degree and want to stay and work in the UK. This route does not require sponsorship and is sometimes used by aspiring teachers to gain UK classroom experience, provided schools consider their degree and experience appropriate for teaching roles. It's a temporary route (currently 2 years, reducing to 18 months for applications made from January 2027) and doesn't lead to settlement on its own — many graduates use this period to work toward a sponsored role.
